        Which one?

After he led me to Christ, my mentor Ken spent so much time answering all the questions that flooded my mind; it’s a wonder he got any work done.  Dealing with a new convert like me…who knew absolutely NOTHING about Christianity…must have driven him nuts.  But he always smiled and answered the question.  And the next question.  And the next.  Then one day, I asked a question that Ken wouldn’t answer.  The question was, “Which one?”

At this point I had started trying to do all the things Ken suggested to begin my journey:

        1. Starting with the Gospel of John, he told me to spend as much time as possible reading the New Testament.  I bought a plain English translation (they said it was written at a fifth-grade level…which was about my speed) and I spent so much time reading it that friends and family thought I was turning into a monk.

        2. He told me to spend a lot of time in prayer.  This one kind of threw me for a while.  As silly as it sounds, I didn’t know HOW to pray: the proper position, the right words, the right time, etc.  You know: The Ritual.  Imagine my surprise when I finally realized that there is no ritual, no right way or wrong way of talking with God: It’s a conversation with him.  You don’t have to be on your knees, in a special place or speaking with eloquent King James language

        3. Finally, Ken told me I needed to “get plugged in” to a church.  I had no idea what “getting plugged in” meant…it sounded like it might be painful.  Ken explained it simply meant that I needed to find a church and join it.  And that’s when I did it; I asked the question Ken wouldn’t answer: WHICH ONE?

He said that there were a lot of really great churches to choose from and that he didn’t want to push me in one direction or another.  I asked him where he attended but he told me he preferred that I try some churches on my own.  Then, he said, if I wasn’t “getting fed” come try his church (note to self: find out what “getting fed” means…surely they don’t serve breakfast in church.)  And so, I was on my own.  Years later I asked Ken why he was so reluctant tell me which one I should join, he explained that I was not only a guy he had  led to Christ, but he had also hired me to do a radio talk show on his station.  He was my boss, now.  And we had become friends.  He said that was WAY too much influence for one person to wield over another.  He wanted me to pick a church because that’s where God wanted me, not because I felt pressured.

He was right of course, but that left me with a dilemma.  Now I had to answer the question:  WHICH ONE?

        Epilogue

Billy Sunday said, "You say, I'll be a Christian and go to Heaven without joining a church. Yes, and you can go to Europe without getting on board an airplane or a ship. The swimming is good, but the sharks are laying for folks  who take that route. If a man is truly saved, he should hunt for a good Bible-believing church right away to  be sure he gets grounded in the faith ."

        Thought for the Day

"The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because generally they are the same people."   G. K. Chesterton

        Semi-interesting fact

The penguin, unlike most birds, does not have hollow bones. For most birds the hollow bones provide a strong but lightweight skeleton for flight. The penguin’s bones are solid, providing weight for ballast. God doesn’t make mistakes.

        Joke Du Jour

A Methodist church tried to get a man to attend, but he never did.
"Why don’t you come?" the minister asked, and the man finally admitted it was because he didn’t have proper clothes.
So a member of the congregation took him to a clothing store and got him a nice suit, shirt, tie, and shoes.
But on the following Sunday, he still did not show up.
So the minister visited him again and asked him why he didn’t come.
"When I got dressed up in my new suit," the man explained, "I looked so good I decided to go to the Episcopal church."

        Questions I ask myself

If practice makes perfect, and nobody's perfect, why  practice?

        Really??  Actual News

        Cat falls 19 stories,
only minor injuries -- A Boston woman said it was a "miracle" when her cat survived a 19-story fall without any serious injuries.  Brittany Kirk said her cat, Sugar, plummeted from the window of her 19th floor apartment on Storrow Drive and veterinarians with the local Animal Rescue League said the feline incurred only minor bruising to her lungs, WBZ-TV, Boston, reported Thursday.  "I'm just so thankful. When I came home from work today and I saw her, I was just very thankful. It's a miracle," Kirk said.  Brian O'Connor, a manager with the Animal Rescue League, said Sugar fell an estimated 150 to 200 feet. He said studies have shown cats have a greater chance of survival when they fall from higher than nine stories. "The cats were able to relax, orient themselves in a flying squirrel position with the legs spread out. It slowed their descent down," O'Connor said.  Kirk said she is having screens installed on her windows to prevent future falls.

t's Official: Chocolate Helps You Lose Weight
Chocolate lovers no longer have to fear the flab as eating more can help you keep slim, new research claims.  A study has found that despite boosting calorie intake, regular chocolate consumption is related to lower body mass index (BMI). The effect is modest but greater than can be explained by chance, say the US researchers who took account of influencing factors such as overall fat consumption and exercise.  BMI relates height and weight and is the standard measurement used to assess levels of obesity.  The good news about chocolate emerged after scientists screened a group of 972 men and women with an average age of 57 for a study of statins - cholesterol-lowering drugs.  Among other diet and lifestyle questions, participants were asked: "How many times a week do you consume chocolate?"Chocolate is known to contain plant chemicals called polyphenols that combat heart disease and may influence metabolism

basketball star Greg is now Lindsey… the world's tallest transsexual
A 7ft tall butch basketball star is undergoing a sex change - and will become the world's tallest transsexual.  Lofty American Greg Walker, now 25, grew up sports-mad with beautiful cheerleaders on his arm, but said he 'always felt different'.
Strapping teenager Greg - who has size 16 feet and weighs around 20 stone - regularly lifted weights and would ride motorbikes to mask his true feelings.  He had dozens of girls chasing him but shunned their advances, preferring to become friends instead and discuss fashion and 'girly' things.  In his early 20s, Greg - now Lindsey - was unable to continue the 'charade' and began wearing women's clothes.
He then sought medical advice and began taking estrogen to become more feminine and now boasts a curvy woman's body - and a 38B bra size.
Lindsey is legally classified as a woman and is now saving up for full gender reassignment surgery, which she hopes to have by the end of the year or early 2013.
Her supportive parents have accepted her decision although Lindsey is estranged from her younger brother. She has also contacted the Guinness Book of Records in the hope she will be officially recognised as the world's tallest transsexual.

Red-headed Kangaroo Escapes and causes chaos . Police in Rotenburg, Germany, were caught on the hop - when a kangaroo caused chaos on the roads after escaping from a travelling circus. The roo - called Norbert - brought traffic to a standstill as he bounded between cars during the town's rush hour."We thought we had him cornered and then he jumped right over a car and he was off down the pavement like the wind," said one officer.Meanwhile, circus trainers had discovered Norbert's empty enclosure and helped police and wildlife experts to trap him in a supermarket car park."He's now very calm and happy again and none the worse for his day out," said a circus spokesman.

        Are you kidding me???

Esther 8:9. is the longest verse in the Bible.  That makes sense: it's in a woman's book.

        Groaner

Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One went to Hollywood and  became a famous actor. The other stayed behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much. The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser of two  weevils.
